Vinayak Raju

AI founder, researcher & technologist

I build AI systems at the intersection of healthcare, research, and real-world constraints. I enjoy turning complex problems into simple, deployable products that can actually be used by people.

With a B.Tech in Computer Science and an M.Tech in AI from MIT Manipal, my work spans bootstrapped entrepreneurship, applied AI, and research on robust and human-centered models.

Currently

Exploring stateful, explainable AI systems inspired by mixture-of-experts models, with a focus on impactful use-cases in healthcare and decision-making.

I thrive in uncertain, high-pressure environments and value environments that multiply individual potential through mentorship and community.

Selected Work

A few highlights across startups, applied AI, and research.

Hiranya Pathaye – AI Medical Self-Diagnosis

Founder · NLP · Multilingual · Accessibility

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I co-founded Hiranya Pathaye Technologies to explore an AI-powered medical self-diagnosis assistant. The goal was to let users describe symptoms via chat and receive a preliminary triage, with support for multilingual usage and feature-phone access via SMS to reach rural and underserved populations.

Digital Transformation & Automation for SMEs

Bootstrapped Startup · B2B · Automation

Instead of taking a PPO with Schneider Electric, I doubled down on my startup, leading digital transformation projects: invoice and workflow automation, ERP integrations, and custom software. We stayed bootstrapped on purpose—balancing consulting revenue with long-term AI projects while remaining agile in a rapidly changing AI ecosystem.

Research: Smart RANSAC & Cumulative Prospect Theory

IEEE Publications · Robust Estimation · Human-Centric AI

As part of my M.Tech in AI, I worked on research that led to two IEEE conference publications: one on a Smart RANSAC algorithm for robust estimation, and another on incorporating Cumulative Prospect Theory into AI systems to better align models with human decision-making and risk behavior.

Areas of Focus

  • AI for healthcare and social impact
  • Stateful & explainable models; mixture-of-experts ideas
  • Foundations of ML: math, optimization, fairness
  • Product thinking in constrained, real-world settings
  • Bootstrapped entrepreneurship & digital transformation

About Me

I was introduced to AI around 2017, which eventually led me to pursue both my bachelor's and master's in AI-related fields at MIT Manipal. Being part of the university's innovation centre gave me the space to experiment, build, and run my startup.

I care about simple solutions to complex problems, and about building systems that are both technically sound and socially aware. My long-term interest lies in combining research, innovation, and practice to create AI systems that meaningfully serve society—especially in healthcare.

Beyond Work

Outside of AI, I enjoy public speaking, debating, MUNs, basketball, and quizzing. I'm driven by environments that challenge me, surround me with sharp people, and give me room to grow and build things that matter.
